In this age of competiveness and global financial crunch, business networking has helped interaction between businessmen from varying turfs to share common interests of creating new leads and opportunities. Internet has given birth to a number of networking sites wherein corporate houses get into a socio-economic relationship with each other for the dual purpose of socializing and business expanding.

Business networking sites pave a path for networking events which are held randomly or, at times, periodically so that the entire business society can benefit. These networking events have a number of immediate and long-term benefits to professionals, businessmen and potential entrepreneurs. The chief merit of business networking lies in the fact that it facilitates exchange of ideas & sharing of knowledge in a manner no other form of communication (viz. telephone or e-mail) can provide. Those conventional forms of communication are limited by formal etiquettes and are best suited inside the confines of office walls. These networking sites, on the other hand, produce a bubble of froth and fun by laying down a social path before the businessmen who can willfully (and not necessarily owing to formal compulsion) walk onto it, befriend suppliers, partners, potential clients and other people from the industry, and share thoughts in a very genial and informal environment. That’s why such form of networking has found appeal amongst the business classes who find this more of a play than tedious work.

Merits of such business networking are many. Apart from exchange of ideas, schemes, knowledge and information, companies can also easily procure data relating to current market trend, technology and innovation. Besides, corporate houses also find it a powerful platform from where they can recruit prospective employees, trainers, marketers, etc. But probably the greatest merit is establishing new contacts (on both business & personal levels), empowering public relation and increasing clientele base.
